The inspiration for this hotel events room, where weddings and special functions take place came from Pitigliano, an Italian village in Tuscany. A detailed watercolour visual was produced before the initial production of the panelled walls were undertaken. Once the details were in place, the wall cladding decoration went into production, leaving all the original hotel walls undamaged, windows were clad with panels of Florence style plaster effect columns and arches, a free standing miniature Italian village was made from wood, then covered in plaster and special paint effects, to represent weathered italian homes, in the corner a floor to ceiling tower was made, with winding steps inside to reach the look-out window, panels and arches were covered in thin plaster to imitate rocks and stone, then the whole mini village was lit up inside with mini lights and spots to create the perfect romantic atmosphere needed at weddings.
The dark red textured plaster walls, alcoves and columns were used in this hotel reception area to conjure up the feelings of Thailand, the reception desk was made out of birch baltic plywood and finished in a patina gold leaf with shellac varnish, the lift / elevator door surround was also gold leafed and the radiator covers and door panelling to glass display cabinets were finished in a copper/verdigris finish to create this extravagant hotel reception area.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa consists of a 10′ high floor to ceiling curved 3D model, which was made for a Continental Cafe back wall area, the model consists of wooden poles, MDF cut outs and curved panels which were then covered in a textured plaster, painted and then lit from the back.
